Attorney Scott T. Poole

Attorney Ross David Grisham in Canton GA Scott grew up in Conyers, Georgia, graduating from Rockdale County High School in 1990. From there, he moved to Rome, Georgia, and attended Berry College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science. After graduating from Berry in 1994, he was accepted at the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta.

While attending GSU Law, he completed a Governor’s Internship with Superior Court Judge Stanley Gault in Forsyth County and worked with Fulton Senior Superior Court Judge William Daniel. There, he helped edit Daniel’s Criminal Trial Practice, a handbook utilized by lawyers and judges throughout the state of Georgia. Also, he was a member of the Student Trial Lawyers Association Mock Trial Team where he competed nationally against other student mock trial teams.

After graduation from law school, Scott took a position as an Assistant District Attorney in Cherokee County, Georgia, where he worked as a prosecutor from 1997 until 2008. During his tenure at the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office, he prosecuted criminal cases ranging from property and drug crimes to violent crimes including murder. Scott successfully prosecuted Cherokee County’s first racketeering case pursuant to the Georgia RICO statute and has successfully argued cases before both the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. From 2001-2004 he was the designated Drug Prosecutor for Cherokee County and handled all cases made by the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS). Additionally, he was the lead Asset Forfeiture attorney from 2001 until 2008.

In 2008, he was recruited by the District Attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit to come on-board as the Senior Assistant District Attorney in Pickens County, Georgia. There, he ran the day-to-day operations of the office supervising a staff of Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators. This position also allowed him to focus his efforts on the most serious cases, such as those involving violent offenses (Murder, Aggravated Assault, etc.), sexual offenses (Rape, Child Molestation, etc.) and Drug Trafficking (Methamphetamine, Cocaine, and Meth Labs).

While working as a prosecutor, Scott developed a reputation in the legal community (among both prosecutors and defense attorneys) as both an effective litigator and a knowledgeable instuctor. He served as an instructor for the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia’s Drug Prosecutor Training from 2003-2012, teaching drug prosecutors from around the state the "ins and outs" of drug cases. Scott is also certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council as a Guest Instructor in the areas of Search and Seizure, Courtroom Testimony, Asset Forfeitures and Report Writing.

In January of 2013, Scott made the leap from government employee to private practice when he joined noted Canton defense attorney Ross D. Grisham to form Grisham & Poole, P.C. He now uses the experience he gained from 15 years as a state prosecutor to zealously defend clients who have been charged with violations of the law. As a prosecutor, he saw first-hand that not everyone arrested is guilty and after trying more than 90 jury trials as lead prosecutor, he knows what it takes to win both in and out of the courtroom.

Since 2013, Scott has built an impressive record among Cherokee County criminal defense lawyers. He has successfully defended clients by both having cases dismissed and winning acquittals in jury trials.

We were recommended to the Law Firm of Grisham and Poole through a friend when some family members were charged with a serious, non-violent felony crime. From the very beginning, when Scott Poole agreed to take the case, we had only positive experiences during a time when our family life was completely disrupted and the future was unsure. Scott patiently walked us through a process we knew nothing about. He filed motions, subpoenaed witnesses and worked tirelessly to get the bond conditions modified so our family members could leave home without a curfew, go to work so they could continue to provide for their families, and enjoy freedoms that had been stolen from them. Thanks to Scott and his team justice was served and the case was dismissed. Without Scott's hard work and dedication I know the case would still be open with no resolution in sight. My family and I highly recommend Grisham & Poole and would use no other law firm if we found ourselves in a similar situation. Jennifer R. - November 7, 2017

I can’t say enough about our experience with Scott Poole. He was absolutely AMAZING! His knowledge and attention to detail is incredible. He represented my sister and we met with him multiple times and if at any time we had any questions Scott or Landon would get right back to us. He went over and beyond for my sister. I have no doubt in my mind that she could not have hired a better attorney! I can’t say thank you enough to all that assisted in my sisters case! Thank you again especially to Scott, Landon and Diana!!!! Amy Stich - February 7, 2022
